Privacy Policy

How Salah handles information when you use prayer times, trackers, iCloud sync, maps, widgets, and reminders.

Last updated: September 21, 2026

Salah does not require a Salah account, and we do not operate our own server for your tracker data. Prayer times are calculated on your device and your preferences are stored locally. Your tracker records (prayers, Tasbih, Nafl, and charity) are stored on your device and are configured to sync through your private iCloud database using Apple CloudKit.

1. About this policy

This Privacy Policy applies to the Salah mobile application for iOS. It explains what information Salah stores and processes, where that information goes, and the choices available to you.

This policy describes how the app works. It is not a restatement of the App Store privacy label, which follows Apple’s own definitions and categories.

2. Information stored and processed

Depending on the features you use, Salah handles the following kinds of information:

  • Tracker records (stored on your device and configured to sync through your private iCloud database): prayer completion records, Tasbih totals and goals, Nafl practice records, and charity/giving history. See iCloud synchronization for details.
  • Preferences (stored locally): your selected prayer location, recently searched locations, prayer-time calculation settings, appearance, language, and reminder preferences.
  • Prayer schedules (calculated and stored locally): prayer times calculated on your device and cached for display in the app and its widgets.
  • Location information (optional): your current location, if you grant permission, and place names or addresses you search for. See Location and Apple Maps.
  • Support correspondence (only if you contact us): the content of your email and your email address. See Support correspondence.

3. On-device processing and preferences

Salah calculates prayer times on your device. Calculated schedules and cached prayer times are stored on your device, as are your app preferences: selected prayer location, recent searched locations, calculation settings, appearance, language, and reminder preferences.

These preferences and prayer-time caches are not part of the tracker records that Salah syncs through CloudKit. However, information stored locally on your device may still be included in Apple-managed device backups (for example, iCloud Backup or a computer backup), depending on your device settings. Those backups are managed by Apple and by you, not by Salah.

4. iCloud synchronization

Salah stores tracker records on your device using Apple’s SwiftData framework and is configured to synchronize them through the private database of your iCloud account using Apple CloudKit. The following records are configured to sync:

  • Prayer completion records, including associated dates, timestamps, time-zone information, and any notes you store.
  • Daily Tasbih totals and their associated recorded goals.
  • Daily Nafl practice completion records.
  • Charity/giving history, including amounts, currencies, dates, categories, and any recipient names or notes you enter.

Synchronization uses a private CloudKit database associated with your iCloud account. It is not a database operated by the developer, and Salah does not require you to create a separate Salah account. Whether and when records sync depends on iCloud availability, your device and iCloud settings, network connectivity, and Apple’s services. Synchronization may not be immediate, and it should not be relied on as a guaranteed backup or recovery method.

Data stored in iCloud is handled using Apple’s CloudKit infrastructure and is subject to Apple’s applicable protections and the Apple Privacy Policy.

5. Location and Apple Maps

Location access is optional. You can select a city manually instead of sharing your current location. If you grant permission, Salah requests your location only while the app is in use, for features such as determining your prayer location. Salah does not request background location tracking.

Salah uses Apple’s location and mapping services to support location lookup, city and address search, maps, and nearby mosque searches. When you use these features, your coordinates or search terms may be processed by Apple under its own policies. Not all location-related features work offline.

Your selected prayer location and recent searched locations are stored locally on your device. Salah does not operate a location-tracking server. You can deny or withdraw location permission at any time in iOS Settings.

6. Widgets

Salah’s widgets use an App Group, a shared storage area on your device, to read selected data from the app, such as prayer schedules and related display information. This sharing happens locally between the app and its widgets on your device.

7. Notifications

Prayer, fasting, and charity reminders are optional. With your permission, Salah schedules them locally through iOS notification services. They are reminders you choose to turn on, not marketing notifications.

These local reminders are separate from the background mechanisms Apple uses for iCloud synchronization. CloudKit may use Apple’s push-related services behind the scenes to keep your records in sync; these are not used to send you marketing messages.

8. Charity tracking

Salah’s charity feature is a personal giving tracker. It does not collect or process donations, transfer money, or contact recipients. Amounts, currencies, dates, categories, recipient names, and notes are information you enter to keep your own records, and they may sync through your private iCloud database as described above.

9. Support correspondence

If you choose to email us, including through the feedback form on this page or a support option in the app, your message and your email address are handled by the email service you use and by the Salah support mailbox (nusratjahan.iosdev@gmail.com). We receive whatever information you include in your message, and we use it to respond to you and address your request.

10. Third parties, analytics, and advertising

Salah does not include advertising SDKs, tracking SDKs, or analytics SDKs, and it does not use the advertising identifier. Salah does not display advertisements or track you across other companies’ apps and websites. We do not sell personal information.

Salah relies on Apple services, including iCloud/CloudKit, location and mapping services, and iOS notifications, as described in this policy. Apple’s handling of that information is governed by the Apple Privacy Policy. If you contact us by email, your email provider also handles that message.

11. Security

Information stored on your device is protected by the security features of iOS and your device settings. Information synced through iCloud is handled using Apple’s CloudKit infrastructure and its applicable protections. No method of storage or transmission is completely secure, and we cannot guarantee absolute security.

12. Retention and deletion

Salah does not apply an automatic retention period. Tracker records generally remain in the app’s store, and in your private iCloud database when synchronization is operating, until they are deleted, for example through iCloud settings as described below. Local preferences remain until you change them or remove the app.

  • Synchronization timing and Apple-managed backups can affect when changes are reflected on your devices and in iCloud. Deletion may not be immediate or reflected everywhere at once.
  • Data contained in device or iCloud backups managed by Apple is not controlled by Salah and may persist according to your backup settings and Apple’s policies.

Uninstalling. Deleting the app removes its locally stored data from that device, but it should not be relied on to delete tracker records stored in your private iCloud database.

Deleting Salah’s iCloud data. To remove Salah’s data from iCloud, go to Settings › [your name] › iCloud › Manage Account Storage › Salah and choose to delete its data. Menu names may vary by iOS version. This deletion is performed by Apple’s iCloud service and can affect Salah’s records on all devices signed in to the same iCloud account.

13. Your choices

  • Choose a city manually instead of sharing your location, and manage location permission in iOS Settings.
  • Turn reminders on or off in Salah, and manage notification permission in iOS Settings.
  • Manage iCloud for your device and apps in iOS Settings. Turning off iCloud does not by itself delete records already stored in iCloud; to delete them, go to Settings › [your name] › iCloud › Manage Account Storage › Salah, as described in Retention and deletion.
  • Change or reset app preferences within the app.
  • Contact us with privacy questions using the email address or form below.

14. Children’s privacy

Salah is not directed specifically to children and does not knowingly collect personal information from children. If you have concerns about a child’s use of Salah, contact us at the email below.

15. Changes to this policy

We may update this policy when our features, data practices, or legal obligations change. The revised policy will be published at this URL and the “Last updated” date will be changed.
